Solar PV Systems

Solar PV Systems are methods of converting solar energy into current electricity using solar panels. A solar photovoltaic system employs solar panels composed of a number of solar cells to supply solar power.  SEECO has install solar PV systems for households, institutions and SMEs in Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Shinyanga, Rukwa, Morogoro, Coast and Dar es Salaam.  The company has beilt capacity to more than 100 solar technicians.

 

Solar Power Packs

Solar Power packs are types of solar lanterns. These have four to eight lights and can be installed in the small household and mostly used in off-grid areas and in grid connected areas during power blackouts. It typically has a solar panel along one end that collects solar rays from the sun. This stored energy is then used to power multiple LED bulbs on the flashlight's lens during the evening hours or in dark places, like caves.

Solar Mobile Phone Multicharging Station

The solar phone multi-charger is specially designed to enable people in the off-grid areas to charge their phones in the nearby areas where there is no electricity. The multi-charger will improve communication in all rural areas where there is coverage of cellular phone networks such as Airtel, Vodacom, Tigo, TTCL mobile, and Zantel.  The solar phone multi charger charges a range of mobile phones using the same adaptors of the phone owners. These chargers can be supplied as single user unit and multi-charging station for solar mobile phone charging in rural areas. The multi chargers are available in various sizes and capacity depending on the number of cellular phones, which can be charged at once. 

Solar Drying

The traditional method of drying, known as ‘sun drying’, involves simply laying the product in the sun on mats, roofs or drying floors. Major disadvantage of this method is contamination of the products by dust, birds, insects and loss of vitamin A.   A solar dryer is an enclosed unit, to keep the food safe from damage, birds, insects and unexpected rainfall. The food is dried using solar thermal energy in a cleaner and healthier way. Experience in similar solar dryer for fruits and vegetables prove that solar drying can be attractive as a method for food preservation and also as a commercial proposition. Drying conditions in Tanzania are very favourable and initiation of a solar dryer project can in more than one way improve the standard of life in rural areas

Solar Water Heater

Solar water heater (SWH) is a technology which converts sunlight into renewable energy for water heating using a solar thermal collector.  Solar thermal collectors capture and retain heat from the sun and use it to heat a liquid.  The amount of heat delivered by a solar water heating system depends primarily on the amount of heat delivered by the sun at a particular place (the insolation). In tropical places the insolation can be relatively high, e.g. 7 kW.h/m2 per day

 

A solar water heater is one of the most effective ways of cutting a household's carbon footprint by reducing reliance on dirty fossil fuel usage. By offsetting the use of electricity, gas or heating oil, using solar water heaters can also provide financial savings by reducing energy costs.

Biogas Plants

Biogas typically refers to a mixture of different gases produced by the breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. Biogas can be produced from raw materials such as agricultural waste, manure, municipal waste, plant material, sewage, green waste or food waste.  Biogas can be produced by anaerobic digestion with anaerobic bacteria, which digest material inside a closed system, or fermentation of biodegradable materials. Domestic biogas installations provide benefits in the fields of (rural) energy supply, agriculture, health, sanitation, gender and environment.

 

SEECO is intending to establish a commercially viable domestic biogas sector by providing high quality biogas plants and ensures the continued operation of biogas plants installed by a company whereby stakeholder will continue to stimulate optimum use and to integrate the technology in the rural development.

Improved Charcoal Oven

 

Improved charcoal oven is a device designed for baking bread and cakes other charcoal oven is used for roasting meat. Oven uses charcoal as a fuel baking and cooking. The advantage of this oven is the little consumption of charcoal due to its heat energy conservation property.

 

Bell-Bottom Improved Charcoal Stove is similar in specifications like Straight Improved Charcoal Stoves.  These stoves are manufactured in different sizes from 9, 10,11,14,18 and 22 inches of diameter at the top of the stove.  The thermal efficiency of stove is 35 percent.  It is mostly used for cooking by using charcoal in households but sometimes the stove can as well used in SMEs.

 

There are mainly two types of charcoal ovens; first type of ovens are those which are used for baking and this group of ovens can be subdivided in two sub-groups; those without stoves and those with single or double stove(s) on the top, furthermore baking charcoal oven can be either small or large. It can bake up to 24 loaves of bread every 30 minutes.  The thermal efficiency of oven is around 40 percent.

Box Double Plate Charcoal Stove 

 

Box Double Plate Charcoal Stove is manufactured in only one size.  The stove has two banners for cooking food.  The thermal efficiency of stove is 35 percent.  It is mostly used for cooking by using charcoal in households. 

 

The stove offer economic, health and environmental benefits by reducing smoke and toxic emissions  and fuel requirements, costs, and cooking time by up to 50%.  The stove can use both charcoal or briquettes as fuels for cooking, heating and boiling.

 

Sazawa Charcoal Stove

 

Sazawa Charcoal Stove is the most efficient local charcoal stove.  The stove is made up of metal sheet, round bars and two clay ceramic liners (fireboxes), which are bounded together to metal body by mixture of cement and rice husk ashes. Intended to save a significant amount of charcoal consumed in the cooking meals in the households. Laboratory test revealed efficiency of about 44%. It is mostly used for cooking by using charcoal in households but sometimes the stove can as well  be used in SMEs

Kuni Chache Stove

There are two designs of Kuni Chache stoves called Kuni Moja and Kuni Mbili Stoves.  These are simple designs made by putting together ceramic liners and metal cladding (outer metal part) to produce a firewood stove that is more efficient than traditional three-stone open fireplace. It has a distinctive conical shape, with different diameters at the top compared to bottom of the stove. Thermal efficiency of the Kuni Moja and Kuni  Mbili Firewood stoves is 30%.

 

These designs burn the firewood (or other fuel) more efficiently with firewood consumption reduction rate of almost 50 percent.  Only one or two pieces of firewood are inserted in the fire chamber during cooking and which means reducing number of bundles of firewood consumed by open three stone fire-places.

Nyama Choma Barbeque Charcoal Oven

 

Nyama Choma Barbeque Charcoal Oven is used for roasting meat, like baking ovens there is small and big sizes of oven for meat roasting purposes. Unlike baking ovens, roasting ovens do not have stoves for cooking except multi-purpose. The thermal efficiency is 30 perce be subdivided in two sub-groups; those without stoves and those with single or double stove(s) on the top, furthermore baking charcoal oven can be either small or large. Teksawa Barbeque Charcoal Oven

 

Teksawa Barbeque Charcoal Oven is a multi-functional oven used for roasting, cooking and boiling water. The stove can be used in barbeques, ceremonies and even in SMEs for roasting, cooking at the same time boiling water.  The thermal efficiency of this multi-functional stove is 30 percent.

Straight Improved Charcoal Stove

 

The straight improved charcoal stoves are manufactured in different sizes from 9, 10,11,14,18 and 22 inches of diameter at the top of the stove. The thermal efficiency of stove is 35 percent.  It is mostly used for cooking by using charcoal in households and SMEs.  Cooking with charcoal provides an even heat source that is also very cheap and reliable in comparison to gas/electricity.  Switching to an efficiently designed Straight Charcoal Stove saves time, money and our forests.
